David Tutera, Celebrity Event Planner: Why did he quit Celebrity Apprentice?
This post isn’t a prediction but an observation and an answer.
I found it strange that David Tutera quit because being an event planner, let alone a Celebrity event planner, requires a lot of patience and client challenges.
I asked: Why did David Tutera quit?
I got: David felt he knew better. He wanted to plan things very well, create a strong foundation, and be very careful or cautious in his execution. He felt he could make something out of nothing and WAS offended by Joan suggesting he was anything less than a fabulous event planner. Afterall he is a celebrity planner. And what I mean by that is that David Tutera had or is having cocky ego problems from all his success. He really needs to come down a notch. Joan knows a fabulous idea when she hears one and David just didn’t have any (at least for her). I figure because of time, money, and not wanting to go down the road Joan wanted — he just didn’t think it was worth it to do the show. What’s worse is that David was childish about it. Let Annie have her event planner; she didn’t do anything wrong. I guess Trump gave David to Joan because David owns the company and thought he would do the best job for Joan but David really should have went to Annie and the other planner to Joan, that would have been a better fit. Annie was going for sophisticated and David wanted to do “sophisticated”.
I agree.. David’s ego took over here. He should be used to handling clients, My goodness, he deals with brides all day long.. and he couldnt handle some MINOR criticism? He needs to grow up. The way his agency treated the apprentice was sheer foolishness. He thinks he’s above and beyond scrutiny? Is he crazy? Now millions of people have seen his as a diva who is lazy and childish. Bad move professionally, but his character was uninteresting from moment one anyway.
I think Joan was correct.. he didn’t “get it” and he was “phoning it in”. He kept giving advice that was vague and boring.

What I found most telling was his comment (as heard on the show) that what Joan wanted was “impossible”. Either he has a huge ego, or he’s just incompetent. Either way, Joan didn’t deserve that kind of treatment from a so-called professional.

I’m going with huge ego and development of a “style” which down the road will really hamper him. Best to stick with a mission than a style because a mission can be opened up to your clients, a style is fixed.
Indeed. For a Celebrity Planner nothing should be impossible. In the world of numerology, Joan is a 3. That means, amongst other things, that she is an ideas, can-do, and possibilities person. They probably clashed hardcore in personality temperament. But still… a professional and high profile planner should make mountains move, water part, and Siamese cats smile…

haha… Hi Cookie. True enough. I was a Bridezilla and I know how demanding we can be. Once you master that, anything is possible. lol It did appear to be minor criticism and heh, if you want to bring your friend in to work on this with me, his best reply ought to have been — sure! It shows he’s a team player and is not threatened but that’s where ego comes in and I think he’s developed too much of one. I too believe the way they reacted on the show was not cool at all. The could of had the courtesy to contact the other team to tell them they had quit or just invited them into their office for a sit down. It just didn’t make sense. Anyway, onwards and upwards.
